Modification
of EHC rules concerning drafting
With immediate effect drafting in EHC
races behind riders from another divisions (A, B, C, FB, FC) or from another participating
athletes or groups (inlineskaters, wheelchair racers, bikers) is forbidden (according
to IPC rule 7.005). This regulation becomes already effective in Heidelberg race
on 26th of June and the adherence will be controlled (drafting within EHC classes
A1 / A2 and C1 / C2 is allowed further on). Everyone who infringes upon this new
regulation might get a time penalty up to 10 minutes or might be disqualified
in case of recurrence.

EHC race in Kirchboitzen (Germany)
The selective circuit of Kirchboitzen
affected some changes in EHC ranking. In division C the Austrian rider Hans Mayrhofer
was beaten for the second time this year by Kees van Breukelen from The Netherlands.
In Division B the European Champion Markus Rauber from Switzerland won his first
race in EHC at all. In division A Rastislav Turecek from Slowakia had a great
come-back. He won race of Division A just in time for Paralympic Games. Monique
van der Vorst demonstrated once more her invincible position at the moment. Click

A Great Deal of Discussion
Concerning "Kneeling Body Position"
On 24th of July IPC Cycling SAEC Meeting
in Bonn dealt with this matter first time. All Cycling Team Officials got the
information per
email that the Athens 2004 Handcycling Events will be governed by the IPC Cycling
Rules 2002 plus UCI Regulations for 2004. IPC Cycling Rule 18.002 analogously
states that "kneeling body position" is only allowed if bodyweight is primarily
supported through a seat. Therefore, if bodyweight is supported by the knees to
any significant degree, this would violate the current rules.
Special note
concerning handcycle equipment: According to UCI regulations only traditional
style, spoked wheels (minimum 16 spokes) are allowed in road races and classical
aerodynamic helmets as used in past are forbidden in time trial.

EHC-Time Trial in Louny (Czech Republic)
The Czech EHC member hosted
the 2nd time trial this year. The handcycle event was best organized just like
last year. Very strong headwind after turning point was the main reason that most
of the riders could not improve their time of last year. The winners of division
C, F and A - Mayrhofer, Eskau and Quittet - could repeat their victory of Schenkon.
Marcel Pipek of division B used his home field advantage and gained his first
victory. Team Otto Bock won the team competition. Click here

EHC-race
in Zolder (Belgium)
This time the selective motorcycle course of Zolder
was the scene of the 4th road race competition of EHC. Some challenging hills
and headwind on some sections of the course have been the determining factor of
this race. In the absence of Hans Mayrhofer Kees van Breukelen (NED) gained the
victory of division C. Josef Michelberger (GER) won division B - his second victory
in EHC. Monique van der Vorst (NED) of division F was superior to any rider once
again (her 18. victory in EHC!) and Christoph Etzlstorfer (AUT) won the race of
division A and regained the Yellow Jersey he had lost in Schenkon. Click here
