General
Meeting of the European Handcycling Federation
Last weekend
the EHF Committee did held the General Meeting. One of the most important topics
was to improve the quality of the European Handbike Circuit. It has been recommended
that the promoters have to try to undertake all to fulfil the obligations of the
event guidelines. To ensure that the bike equipment and helmet comply with the
Technical Rulebook a technical delegate will make random checks at every event.
The EHF/EHC Rulebooks and Guidelines have been modified marginally but the special
classification system of the EHF won't be changed. At 2007 circuit there will
be some races of longer distance of about 70 to 90 km, which will need stronger
condition as for marathons. The EHC race calendar
has been fixed at the meeting too except for the German race, which is still pending.
The height of the season will be the WHF World Championships at Parabiago
in Italy. The individual Time Trial and the road race of this event will both
count for EHC too.

Race
Across America: Handcycling to Success: 6-Person Handcycle Team
If ever
there were a triumphant parade along the Atlantic City Boardwalk, this brave team
of disabled handcyclists from Austria were it. The team RC Enjo Vorarlberg arrived
on the Atlantic City Boardwalk at 12:21 p.m. June 21st, with a finish time of
10 days and 12 minutes. No other teams competed in their class. A mighty victory
salute confirmed the ambitious and highly successful continental crossing by the
Vorarlberg team. "We are really proud to be here," said team spokesman Phillip
Bonadiman. Having started with the Solo riders, the team had gone from a distant
last on the first day, to almost the head of the soloists at the finish. They
were faster than all of the Enduro riders and all but four of the Solo field.
"We could not match the speed of the first day. It was very hot and very hilly
leaving Oceanside. But then the solo riders started getting tired, while we remained
fresh. We came back from our breaks with fresh arms, and fresh arms are better
than tired legs! The purpose of Team Enjo Vorarlberg was to inspire other handicapped
people that they are still capable of great things. In the 2006 Race Across America
they amply proved this is so. See time

The Wild West
Handcycling Tour is still open to register
Hello All, just a reminder,
entries are still open for the 2006 Wild
West Handcycling Tour. If you know of any interest, encourage them to enter.
We may be able to assist with offsetting their costs. This event will be awesome!
A true Cycling Tour to see who is truly the best all round hand cyclist? This
event is run in conjunction with the Bike week initiative in Australia so it will
be the best time to raise the profile of our sport while the media are here on
mass. Looking forward to seeing you all at what will be one of the 'to do' hand
cycling events on the annual calender.
Kind Regards,
Andrew Budge
